Description

In this contribution we will describe the activities of the Insertion Devices and magnetic measurements group at ALBA since 2019 and the plans for the future. ALBA is taking the first steps towards a complete renewal of its main accelerator in order to decrease its electron beam emittance by a factor 30. The current plan is that the upgraded facility, that will be named ALBA II, will start user operation around 2031. ID group has been given the responsibility of designing, procuring and characterizing the magnets for the new accelerator. In order to face this challenge the group has undergone a complete reorganization, including the recruiting of new members. The structure of the renewed group and the strategy for the following years will be presented, including the foreseen update of the magnetic measurements laboratory.
Concerning magnetic measurement activities, Covid19 pandemics has had a very strong impact on the volume of work for external companies and institutions. However, we will report on the characterization that we have carried out for CIEMAT of a permanent magnet-based dipole with longitudinal and transversal gradients, where we have combined Hall probe field mapping and an eccentric flipping coil for the determination of field harmonics.
